Let's cut to the chase, I don’t want to waste your reading time or my writing time discussing this disc more than I have to. There are a lot of The Doors DVDs on the market, and a handful of them are well worth buying – unfortunately this isn’t one of them.

This tribute to Jim Morrison is pretty lack lustre, and I’m normally a pretty easily impressed Doors fan. Created and filmed ten years after the death of Jim Morrison (and please note it's now been over 30 years since he passed away), this 60 minute feature is quite a drag even for its short running time. We’ve got some interviews with the three surviving members of the band, a record producer, and two biographers. There are only three songs played in full (Touch Me, The Changeling, LA Woman) and ten others which range in length, but let's just save confusion and say these are short, worthlessly short.

I do hate to bag out footage about The Doors as I’m a big fan, but this disc deserves nothing less. The content isn’t entirely bad, and there are a couple of moments (maybe two or three) that are somewhat interesting, but in comparison to other discs out on the market this one looks pretty ordinary. The three remaining band members are still alive and still rocking hard as they proved on the VH1 special, so you’d think if somebody was to release a tribute to the charismatic band leader they could have at the very least made an effort to pull out some decent NEW footage.

As stated above, this film was put together some 20 years ago and as such the footage looks not a day over 30. The interviews appear to have been recorded on the cheap and the quality suffers for it. Footage of The Doors themselves in action is over 30 years in age and looks not a day over 40. It’s a shame the film couldn’t have been looked after better or, dare I say it... remastered, but luckily enough the footage doesn’t deserve remastering, so who really cares?

Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo is what we’ve got on this disc, and there isn’t much else that can be said about it. The footage consists mostly of interviews and old film clips of poor quality, so the soundtrack never gets pushed past a level of standard conversation. There are no major problems with the soundtrack and synching is just right, but overall it's got a dull and flat sound to it that is far from impressive.

In summation it's quite simple, if you want to release a NEW film as a tribute to the charismatic Jim Morrison then track down NEW footage, talk to the band and record NEW interviews, as few want to see a goosey looking and badly dressed Ray Manzarek sitting in a deck chair down at a Californian beach some 21 odd years ago. Seriously, is that asking for too much?
