    Madonna - Ciao Italia

Madonnas final concert in Turin, Italy was captured on video and has now been transferred to dvd for release worldwide. A collection of 14 of her best from back then accompanied with greatly choreographed stage sequences ensure there is always something to entertain the viewer.

Not a great looking disc but given the video material used, it can be forgiven. The footage does have that mid 80's video quality feel to it with ghosting occuring when a camera passes by a bright light. It's not the encoding doing this, it's the material as the bit-rate is up above 7 for most of the concert.

Black levels are the main problem throughout the concert. Once the lights go out between main sequences, you really do see just how black the image isn't. Once you've seen the best dvd can offer it's hard to not notice these things. Detail and sharpness are ok but not great as is inherent in video resolution from back then.

Linear PCM is a great way to provide a stereo soundtrack with. This disc packs a real dynamic presence right from the outset. Stereo separation is as you would expect of a concert although almost as good as a studio recording.

One thing you'll notice is the HUGE crowd in attendance and they really make their presence felt between songs. The sound engineers must be commended for the great mix of lyrics, instruments and crowd that they provide on this disc.

Nothing other than a 2 stage menu and english subtitles.

      Overall

Ok, once I put the disc in for review I found myself tapping away to the songs and soon realised my wife had stopped what she was doing and was also bopping away on the couch next to me. It catches you, it's got songs good enough to do so and the sound is the real winner here so I can easily recommended it to fans of the material girl.
