Bob Luman was a chameleon performer who started out as a minor rockabilly star, and whose career came to an abrupt halt when he had to do time in the US Army in 1962. It never really picked up again. He left rockabilly behind him and moved into country and western, where he enjoyed a moderately successful career. This 'Town Hall Party' presentation is taken from eight separate performances between September 1958 and September 1959. He performs well, but lacks originality. He is in fact at his best when doing uncannily alike impersonations of Johnny Cash, in I Walk the Line and Folsom Prison Blues. He was one of a myriad of singers of the time who were great doing other people's material, but just couldn't find their own voice.

This is a good transfer of an early Kinescope, the pre-video process where a movie camera shoots the image direct from a black-and-white television monitor. Sound and image are acceptable for the time. The only extra is the booklet accompanying the disc, which is a good multi-page history of the performer, well laid out and well written.
