Destiny’s Child and perhaps more so members Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland have become leaders in the music industry, with impressive record sales over the past few years. Beyonce Knowles even made an impressive acting debut in Goldmember, a role that was no doubt gained by her popularity in the charts. They have won multiple Grammy Awards along the way and seem to be growing in popularity, both as solo performers and as a group.
We look great in red...
Destiny’s Child – The Platinum’s On the Wall takes us back to where it all began with the video releases that introduced them to the world. There are only six videos featured, but these are a good indication of the talent of the group and how innovative their sound was. This sound has become very distinctive nowadays, but when first released it was seen as something different.
Track Listing:
No, No, No Part 1
No, No, No Part 2
Bills, Bills, Bills
Bug a Boo
Say My Name
Jumpin’ Jumpin’ (So So Def Remix)
Bills, Bills, Bills put the band on the map, but it was Say My Name that really achieved chart success, topping the charts worldwide and still receiving airplay today. Jumpin’ Jumpin’ was also a big hit and by now the group were well and truly established.
We look great in blue too...
As a group they have gone on to record huge hits such as Independent Women, which is contained here as a bonus track and Bootylicious. Kelly and Beyonce have achieved similar success with solo releases and the group’s next album is eagerly awaited by fans.
This is a great release for fans and shows the early days of Destiny’s Child. The sad thing here though is the brief running time of a mere 25 minutes. Containing only six videos makes this a little lightweight, but still worth purchasing for diehard fans simply to have a video history of the group with their other hits no doubt due for release in the future.
But even better live in widescreen.
The good news for fans though is that Sony have now released this DVD as part of their Now See Hear campaign. This series contains the DVD along with a bonus CD of The Writing's On the Wall, making it much better value.

The video clips on this release are in varying aspect ratios, predominantly full frame, but none are 16:9 enhanced. That is except for the bonus video which is in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and is 16:9 enhanced. The six videos on the main feature are all of reasonable music clip standard. Picture is generally soft throughout with some lack of detail. There are other nasties such as aliasing and over saturation of colours, but this varies throughout going from good to poor. The bonus video is much better, no doubt to it being newer than the others. It still suffers from some aliasing, but is generally much better than the studio produced clips.
Two audio tracks are available with this release, PCM Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. Both are reasonable with the PCM track possibly the better of the two. Both are clear throughout with no synch problems. The 5.1 track offers some good separation with a nice balance of sound across all channels. The bonus live track is only available in a choice of two different PCM tracks, both of which sound much the same.
The extras on this release include the bonus video for Independent Women Part 1, which was recorded at the Brit Awards. This is a nice extra, but really should be classed as part of the main feature. Secondly there is a biography on the group. This is made up of ten pages of text.
Overall this is really only a release for diehard fans, although the bonus CD available in the Now See Hear series makes it much more attractive to a wider audience. Well done Sony for using this concept.
