Subtitled ‘Rappers That Live the Lyrics’, this forms part of a series whereby renowned rap peoples do a kind of personal This is Your Life thang by revisiting their roots - and using a certain potty-mouth ‘f’ word one heck of a lot. My, that makes them like all tough and stuff, right?

Defying logic by reminiscing about their past, present and future (according to our host, B-Real, at any rate), we’re guided around the ‘hood where it all went down in M.O.P’s development, the streets of Brownsville, Brooklyn – apparently one of New York’s roughest and toughest areas. Touching on the inspirations for their all-important lyrics – the guns, the drugs, the violence… erm, the shopping – this is most definitely rather hardcore, and uneasy going for the uninitiated. Mind you, as to how much of it is indeed real, rather than macho posturing, is definitely open for debate.

With no extras whatsoever and a sub-one hour running time, there’s little on offer here value-wise, not to mention the fact that it’s hard to see the relevance of a release such as this to Australia, even if sadly much of what’s depicted is a way of life for many elsewhere. Still, this is coming from somebody who could hardly be labelled ‘street’ (so I won't even attempt to understand what's goin' on here), but somebody who at the same time hopes anything near the level of childish drugs ‘n’ guns ‘n’ violence ‘gangsta’ bullshit depicted here never gains ground in our country – even though, sadly, it seems some of the more easily led and impressionable/unoriginal seem to have already fallen for it hook, line and monstrous gold chains.

The 4:3, often shonkily handheld-shot vision keeps things suitably real for such a presentation, however quality is never really a word which seems to have much relevance to proceedings.

The audio, meanwhile, is a bit of a mixed bag. The incomplete track snatches included represent suitable oomph via either the Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 mixes, but the audio caught on location can prove a little trying in the understanding-just-what-the-hell-they’re-sayin’ department.

You know what I’m sayin’?
