Jean-Paul Rappeneau's drama Bon Voyage is a mild, drama with romantic overtones about young French people caught up in the crisis of the Second World War. In 1939 France found itself divided between loyalists, and those ready to surrender everything to the invading Nazis - even plans the Nazis needed to push forward their own plans for atomic weapon development. The action moves from Paris to Nice, as the usually picturesque Cote d'Azur becomes instead the setting for a race against people and time, as young members of the Resistance resolve to upset the Nazi plans. It's diverting stuff, notable for the appearance of striking young French actor Yvan Attal as the romantic lead, opposite such stalwarts as the ever-beautiful pair of Isabelle Adjani and Virginie Ledoyen, and French stalwart Gerard Depardieu. If you enjoy French cinema, this is for you.

This is an NTSC Region One and Four transfer, so be warned -- both your DVD player and television set must be NTSC-compatible. The use of the NTSC format hasn't lessened picture quality -- this is a crisp, exceptionally bright anamorphic transfer. The sound is only presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, while French Region Two buyers were given the movie in DTS. But the sound is perfectly adequate, with no distortion and a good full-frequency platform provided, with most attention given to the frontal speakers. There is a reasonably interesting audio commentary from the director, which reveals just what a French cinema veteran he is. Two previews are shown, for the animated feature The Triplets of Belleville and Zhou Yus Train.
