With it's made for television Full Frame B/W image, this ongoing series of dvd Twilight Zone releases have all been fairly consistent in quality. The tonal range of grays are good, with a fairly crisp image (for its age) and although some blacks appear to be reduced to silhouettes (mostly in clothing) the look is quite good overall. There's the occasional specks and other markings, but nothing to be concerned with. Unlike a couple of previous discs, the quality appears fairly even across the separate episodes on this disc.

Again, made for television audio quality harking back to the late 50's - early 60's and plonked onto dvd in Dolby Digital 1.0 mono. With a persistent background hiss and some sibilance to the dialogue being the only problems with the series, the quality of the audio is otherwise quite good for the age. Your center channel (or television) will have an easy time reproducing clear dialogue, minor effects and some good score work.

The only thing you really need to decide on when considering the Twilight Zone dvd series is which to buy, which to rent and which to borrow from friends and never return. I've said in the past that ideally you'd buy every single release, but obviously some of us are on a budget, married, in debt or in prison. What ever your case may be, you can rest assured that the actual transfer quality of this dvd is consistent with the series to date, which is to say it's quite good. Episode quality wise, I think the dvd is carried by the dramatic strength of "Nervous Man In A Four Dollar Room" and "The Midnight Sun". "Nervous Man…" also has probably the more unusual intro by Serling of the series (that I'm aware of) and one that works quite well in enhancing the whole voyeuristic feeling the show has. So, do you buy or hire? Well, if moolah is a little tight right now, I think this is a renter. But don't worry, there are plenty more Twilight Zone dvds with some ripper episodes to come for you to spend your money on soon.
