Third From The Sun
Episode 14, January 8, 1960
Hearing rumours that a devastating war will wipe out mankind (doesn’t anyone ever think about the rabbits? What about the poor little rabbits?) in 48 hours, two men make plans to steal an experimental spaceship and escape to a nearby planet with their families. This is one of the two typical “twist” stories on this dvd which made TZ so famous and is what most people usually recall the show being all about, even though it was only one method the show used to get it's point across.

The Shelter
Episode 68, September 29, 1961
This story retreads a well wore theme of The Twilight Zone to good effect. Even though the local neigbours all seem the best of friends, enjoying dinner parties and each others company, when UFO’s are announced to be flying over U.S. airspace, people are told to head for their bomb shelters. It's then that friends turn vicious when they realise that only one of them has a shelter, and the rest of them will be left to die.

To Serve Man
Episode 89, March 2, 1962
An absolute ripsnorter (who invented that word?)of an episode. This is the sort of story that people fondly recall when asked what they enjoyed so much about the show and probably enjoyed a good deal of replay in reruns. Aliens arrive on Earth. Big, bald aliens. They say they’re the good guys and they’re here to help us –to serve us, so to speak. But not everyone is so convinced. Some humans set out to translate a book left laying around by the aliens, hoping that if they can translate their language, they can discover why the aliens are really here. Are they really kind, gentle and well meaning aliens, or are they the kind that gets work acting in Neighbours -the most evil aliens known to man! Aiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeggggghhhh!!!!!!!

The Fugitive
Episode 90, March 9, 1962
Old Ben is loved by the kids in his apartment block (uh oh, this sounds a bit dodgy…). But Old Ben is not like most old people (getting dodgier...), he’s really an alien fugitive on the run from his own world (oh, that's okay then, I guess. Phew.). While he’s happy to be here on Earth, other aliens from his world have followed him and mean to take him back home. Damnit!

All the episodes on this disc exhibit a similar quality in the video and audio. A nice B&W 1.33:1 picture with good detail and tonal range preserving the look of a show which is over 40 years old reasonably well. There's the usual scratches on the print in places, and some moiré effect occuring on the bad guy's suit in Third From The Sun, but otherwise it all looks pretty hunkydoryamundo and sits well with this particular human being. Ditto goes my feelings for the DD mono audio, which sounds again consistently clear and understandable, with just some minor background hissing and only minor sibilance in dialogue. All in all, a pleasing presentation for your eyeballs and earholes.

So, let's get straight to the point shall we? This is an ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL Twilight Zone purchase for any collection. This dvd has the core of what made the show so influential for so long, with three extremely good episodes that are viewable time and again. One of the best of the Twilight Zone dvds yet, it’ll be extremely hard to beat this one. Yessiree.
