Time travel was a popular theme in The Twilight Zone, and unlike many volumes in the series, all four episodes on this dvd share this single common theme. The displacement of time and it's effects are used to show the characters the error of their ways, to appreciate what they have, and where they are and finally to encourage one that his trouble will all be worth it in the end.

The Last Flight (Ep 18)
British pilot Decker lands his World War 1 biplane at an American Airforce base in France in 1960. This is a rather strange thing to do, as he claims the last thing he recalls is leaving his friend for dead in a dog fight against the Germans in 1917. He tries to convince them he’s telling the truth, but they fear this is an elaborate plot to assassinate a visiting dignitary, the very person he claims to have let die back in 1917.

Once Upon A Time (Ep 78)
1890, Woodrow Mulligan (Buster Keaton), an inventor's cleaner, just can’t handle the fast pace and loud noises of his modern society. Taking the Time Helmet his boss has created, he sets travel for 1960, hoping to get away from the hustle and bustle of 1890 for a nice quiet time and place. On arrival, the helmet breaks leaving him stuck in a place worse than where he came from.

A Hundred Yards Over The Rim (Ep 59)
Christian Horn, a pioneer looking to settle in a new part of the country leads a struggling wagon train across New Mexico in 1847. With moral low, he goes off alone in search of water and food for his dying son and desperate party. Intending to travel only 100 yards over a nearby rise, he instead steps through to time to 1961 and discovers the destiny that will inspire him to finish his long journey.

The Trouble With Templeton (Ep 45)
Booth Templeton, aging stage actor, laments the passing of the better years of his life. Missing his first wife, married with a much younger flirty second wife and not up to the demands of a young hotshot director, he wishes he could relive the old days he holds so dear in his memory. But when he is given the chance to revisit these times he finds it’s not all he remembers it to be.

The television format fullframe black and white picture transfered from all film based episodes look sharp and detailed as usual with just the slightest edge enhancement and minor aliasing which rarely shows it's ugly head. The DD1.0 mono audio is bright and clear, and relatively free from hiss and distortion with the exception of The Last Flight which sounds a bit flat and dull. Again, all limitations with the quality of the source aside, this shows that the only way to relive this highly influential series is with this magnificent set of dvd releases.

The extra features on the dvd consist of a selection of text based screens. They contain a Rod Serling Biography, Season By Season Commentary, History Of The Twilight Zone and Reviews of the individual episodes on the disc. Sure, it’s not a comprehensive package, but there’s some good (but brief) reading, and the reviews are quite interesting.
