Three Tenors in Concert 1994

Warner Vision/Warner Vision . R4 . COLOR . 112 mins . G . PAL

  Feature

As a finale to the 1994 World Cup Soccer tournament held in the US, the 3 tenors have once again come together to celebrate their love for Opera and the game of football. The last time these 3 greats of Opera came together was 4 years earlier in Italy and this encounter was to be the beginning of a world-wide tour of the 3 tenors.

The video is excellent. The only downside is the source material but this can be forgotten once you accept that you will be watching a high quality presentation of the event.

The set used in the background had some nice hues that came up great on dvd and give the stage a relaxing look that would let anyone enjoy this music at its best.

Wow. Ever get that feeling of watching something so powerful that your hairs just stand on end and shivers go through your body? Well, this dvd did this to me. I've heard pavarottis music before but this was a different experience altogether.

The PCM track is as good as you can get. Classical music can be heard at its best and the orchestra is superb even though it is only stereo.

The 5.1 Dolby Digital track is even more amazing. Their is noticable channel seperation in the front channels as the orchestra plays and the tenors take total control over the center speaker and use the mains for extra oomph.

The surrounds come into play when the crowd give their many standing ovations and are also used to good effect during the orchestral pieces.

A 24 page booklet is included that basically has a small handful of photos of the event and the rest is just the lyrics to the songs. These lyrics are also included as alternate subtitle tracks on both sides of the disc.

  Overall

This is probably the best way to experience a live orhcestral performance associated with video. If you're a fan of opera, a fan of excellent music or a fan of demo quality sound material then this is the disc for you.
