When the special effects laden adventure romp The Mummy quickly became an international success, due partly to the lack of another Indiana Jones installment?, it was inevitable that a sequel would be produced. Who would have thought that it would also go on to top the original in terms of Box Office clout, even with a decline in the storyline originality. The stories are pretty straight forward and are explained within the reviews below but in a nutshell we follow Rick O'Connell and his band of merry men trying to find the lost city of Hamunaptra to rid the world of Imhotep who has been resurrected and is out to take over the world. The sequel sees our hero and his new wife and son do exactly the same thing on a grander scale. Once again the O'Connells find themselves stuck between a Rock, a Mummy and a hard place.

Not only does this pack boast the Ultimate Edition of the Mummy and the "Might aswell call it an Ultimate Edition" of the Mummy Returns, we also get one or two little additions that make it all worth while for the collectors out there. Firstly is the packaging itself. Whilst it doesn't feel as sturdy as many of the overseas product that some of us lay our hands on, the effort to make this pack different from what is already out there should be encouraged. The cardboard box is just that, with the same window opening on the front as seen in the Simpsons Season one Box with the guts sliding out from the right. The guts is made up in the same style as what is found with the Simpsons, Sopranos and X-Files Seasons Boxen in a gate-fold style where each unfold reveals 1 of the 4 discs in the collection. For some reason, the feel doesn't give me much confidence in the longevity of the pack but it does look damn cool to have these two popcorn flicks packaged together like this. The second addition is a senitype (one film frame snippet from the movie) mounted within a hard carboard enclosure featuring a larger printed image of what is on the film cell itself. This one here was numbered 136141 and is off the fight scene involving Nefertiri and Anck-su-Namun. Other than that, we have a high gloss paper slip for the chapter stops of both movies tuck inside a lip on the left most portion of the box. All in all, this is a nice looking box featuring two excellent presentations of the original and the sequel. Whether or not an upgrade from your current collections is for you or not is entirely up to you. Those who don't have either DVD may find this an interesting proposition but be warned, if the Mummy 3 gets announced before you purchase this pack, then you know what you're going to be faced with in the future.
