Lorrie Morgan - The Color of Roses
Aviva/Warner Vision . R4 . COLOR . 76 mins . E . PAL

Lorrie Morgan is billed as a veteran country and western singer, but this slick concert with C & W sidemen and orchestra comes over as far more cabaret than country.

It's slick and stylish, but The Color of Roses lacks soul. Her voice is in good shape, but compared to some of today's singers, such as the inspired Emmylou Harris, it is just not a great voice. And it's interesting that she seems more at home with non-Country standards such as Fly Me to the Moon rather than with the purely country fare on offer such as the now-dated Harper Valley PTA.

This is a very decent full-screen presentation, with a crispness which makes every diamond and rhinestone sparkle. Downtown chic indeed. The DTS and Dolby Digital options are exactly the way all music videos should go - audio quality should always be a priority for music DVDs, but often isn't. The supplements - two audio-only tracks and a long interview with Lorrie - will please fans.
