This is the companion DVD to Roses and Open Gardens, and this time we look at Cottage Gardens and Patch to Scratch.
The Cottage Gardens program is aesthetically all over the place. Mary Moody in Leura understands what a cottage garden is. Some of the other presenters seem to think it's a dog's breakfast. One fellow took out some splendid trees from his front garden and planted his version of a 'cottage garden', which looks like a patch of super-expensive weeds. Personal taste, I suppose...
The second program on this DVD, Patch to Scratch, is a bit more oriented to the practical, as chief presenter Peter Cundall steers us through a course of organic gardening in your backyard - legumes (beans to you and I) and root crops feature large, along with companion-plants designed to keep pests at bay and the soil fertile.
Good stuff. It might even induce me to join my wife in the garden. Well, perhaps not today. Maybe tomorrow.
