For Doors fans, this DVD will be a hard one to walk past. ‘The Doors-30th Anniversary Collection’ is definitely the ultimate collection of archived doors footage available. This one contains it all, footage from their only ever fully recorded concert, a swag of film clips and lots of footage from other live recordings. This is about as comprehensive a set of features that a Doors fan could want and includes an extremely extensive song list that is second to none. Being 30 years since the anniversary of Jim Morrison’s death this disc also includes a remix of ‘The Ghost Song’, a poem written by Morrison, and an updated film clip for ‘Break on Through’, both being more of a tribute to Jim Morrison then anything else.

Shown below is the track listing of all the videos available on this disc. Although you have the ability to play all the movies in one long stream, each film clip or song is split into its own chapter for easy acces. This has been implented perfectly with the animated menus being beautiful to look at and a dream to navigate.

The transfer for this disc exceeds all expectations, especially when compared to previously released Doors DVD’s. The quality of the picture varies from clip to clip. The newer ones look rather nice, but as to be expected, the original clips of the band (some dating back well over 30 years) do suffer from film artefacts, poor shadow detail and a generally soft tone to it all. However the transfer itself (considering the source material) is fantastic. Its obvious that a lot of time has been spent on making this disc a fitting tribute.

The audio is also of a similar quality. On some of the live footage the audio sounds a touch rough, but overall, considering the age, it’s an excellent transfer. There are two soundtracks, a Dolby Digital 2.0 track and a linear PCM track. The PCM track might be slightly superior, but not by any huge margin. Audio sync isn’t a problem, except in a few of the film clips, but that’s just how it was filmed. Ultimately is been re-mastered fantastically and is a true credit to the team behind it.

Overall, this is the disc to own if you’re a fan of the doors. Containing the most extensive list of Doors footage that you could really want, and a transfer that considering the source material is outstanding and almost faultless. This one comes highly recommended to all fans and is a great collectors piece for any music buff.
